First-Year Move-In – August 18, 21, and 26
During First-Year Move-In on Tuesday, August 18, Friday, August 21, and Wednesday, August 26, vehicular traffic will enter the Yard via Johnston Vehicle Gate and exit through Meyer Gate. To ensure the safe and orderly flow of vehicles and pedestrians, additional security officers, HUPD personnel, and Parking Monitors will be stationed at key locations within the Yard. These measures are intended to manage congestion, enforce parking restrictions, and assist new students and families. All Yard gates will operate on their normal schedule during these move-in dates.
Orientation Week – Thursday, August 27 through Tuesday, September 1
During Orientation Week, from Thursday, August 27 through Tuesday morning, September 1,the Yard will follow a two-tiered access schedule. Between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM each day, all 12 Yard gates will remain open to allow free movement for students, staff, and authorized visitors. From 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night, access will be reduced to four staffed gates: Johnston, Sever, Thayer, and Widener. Entry during this period will require a physical HUID check. Students will not be permitted to bring guests into the Yard after 10:00 PM unless preauthorized by a First-Year Dean. Proctors will be allowed to bring up to two guests, contingent upon identity confirmation through an active Proctor list provided by Yard Operations. These temporary access controls are in place to promote safety during a high-volume and transitional week for first-year students.
Entryway Socials – Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30
Entryway Socials are scheduled for Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. These events will take place under normal Yard operations. No changes to gate schedules, access control procedures, or security staffing are anticipated during these events.
Convocation – Tuesday, September 1
On Tuesday, September 1, the Yard will remain under the enhanced evening access posture until the conclusion of Convocation, approximately 5:00 PM. The six gates (Johnston, Solomon, Sever, Thayer, Wadsworth, and Widener) will be staffed with security, and HUID checks will continue to be enforced. Following the conclusion of Convocation, additional security personnel will be dismissed, and the Yard will resume normal gate operations, with all 24/7 gates open as scheduled and day-only gates operating from 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
Movie Night – Tuesday, September 1
The annual movie night will take place in the Tercentenary Theatre on Tuesday, September 1 from 8:00 PM to 10:30PM. No changes to gate schedules, access control procedures, or security staffing are anticipated during these events.
